OXFORD, Miss. – U.S. News & World Report has recognized the University of Mississippi School of Education as one of the nation’s best graduate schools for education.

The rankings, released last month, rank the school at No. 38 among public universities and No. 49 overall.

“This ranking is a testament to the fastidious work and deep commitment of our faculty, staff and alumni, who are dedicated to creating pathways for graduate students to succeed in their education careers,” said David Rock, dean of the School of Education.

“We know that our graduate programs are producing impactful, conscientious and productive educators and leaders, and we’re excited for prospective students across the nation to know it too.”

U.S. News annually compiles rankings of residential and online programs. This year’s report surveys 459 education schools in the nation. The ranking reflects a school’s ability to prepare prospective doctoral students and does not include online master’s programs.

The publication uses two types of data to inform its rankings: statistical indicators of success and input from education school deans and school hiring professionals. Statistics include research activity, external grant funding and student selectivity.

The School of Education garnered $16.7 million in external funding during the 2021-22 academic year, a significant factor propelling the school forward from its previous spot at No. 76.

“My hope is that prospective students see our top 50 position and know that behind that number, right here in Mississippi, are passionate and supportive teachers, grant and professional development opportunities, and a solid network of community support,” said Amy Wells Dolan, the school’s associate dean.
