JuWan Robinson, Ph.D. student in higher education and coordinator of diversity education in UM’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, presented at the Diversity Promising Practices Conference in Auburn, Alabama, in February.

Robinson’s session, titled “Curricular Approach to Diversity Training and Education: Insights from the University of Mississippi” utilized a curricular approach to Diversity Education and Training that factors in the meaningful progression of knowledge and active learning to advance the campus’s ability to engage with equity. This approach was influenced by the Foundations of Residential Curriculum.

The Diversity Promising Practices Conference was a two-day event attended by education leaders, corporate professionals and representatives from public and nonprofit sectors. The primary focus of the conference was to give attendees a platform to explore effective diversity and inclusion strategies, foster learning, and stimulate innovation.

“This was a great opportunity to engage with colleagues in higher education and corporate sectors around topics of diversity, equity and inclusion,” Robinson said. “I was happy to share insights that we have learned about creating campus learning around these topics.”

Robinson is a proud first-generation college student from Bessemer, Alabama. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and the University of Mississippi with a master’s degree in higher education/student personnel.
