John Thelin to Speak on “Going to College in the Sixties”

OXFORD, Miss. — Professor John R. Thelin of the University of Kentucky will address students, faculty and staff at the University of Mississippi on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. to discuss his book Going to College in the Sixties.

The event will take place in Weems Auditorium (room 1078) at the UM Robert C. Khayat Law Center. The presentation is part of an ongoing speaker series in the UM Department of Higher Education, which was endowed in 2019 with a $5,000 gift from UM alumni Coleman and Mary Beth Barnes.

Thelin is a University Research Professor in UK’s Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation. He is the author of six books including A History of Higher Education, and is widely published in academic journals including The Review of Higher Education, Journal of Higher Education, History of Education Quarterly, Academe and Change. In addition to writing for academic journals, Thelin’s work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
