UM Higher Education Ph.D. Student Stuart Sutton was named Development Director for Athletics at University of Wisconsin in October 2018.

Sutton oversees all operational aspects of the Premium Seating program for Wisconsin Athletics. His other focus is to secure major gifts supporting the athletic departments initiatives related to student-athlete scholarships, facility projects, and other capital campaigns.

“The new opportunity at Wisconsin is a tremendous opportunity and allows me to continue sharing the message of the student athlete experience and the higher educational mission,” Sutton said. “I am also thrilled that I will be continuing my education with Ole Miss remotely and sustaining the tremendous relationships I have built with the Higher Education faculty at Ole Miss. College Athletics is the front door to many Universities, but the most important part is a unified vision and trust amongst these two entities. The Ph.D. program will help broaden my knowledge and skills to fulfill my career aspirations as an administrator and offer an added outlet to teach and engage minds while serving the educational mission”.

A native of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Sutton earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012. Sutton earned his master’s degree in sports management from the University of Alabama in 2014, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Mississippi. He was on the Varsity baseball team at Illinois State University from 2008-09 along with obtaining his private pilot’s license in 2009-10 from Southern Illinois University.
