UM Higher Education Alumnus Walter May (MA 00) was recently appointed Dean of Students at Reinhardt University.

“I am honored to serve as the Dean of Students at Reinhardt University,” May said. “I enjoy seeing a thriving University continue to grow, and my favorite part is working with our students who have an innate love of service and giving back to the community.”

May joined Reinhardt in 2001 as the director of student activities. In his time at Reinhardt, he has overseen growth of student activities, including new clubs and organizations, the addition of fraternity and sorority life, and the construction of several residence halls. Just over a year after joining the University, May was selected as the assistant dean of students – a role he served in for 16 years.

May played an integral role in the university’s strategic plan, the implementation of a new fraternity and sorority on campus and the creation of living-learning communities, as well as the university’s re-accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

In his roles at Reinhardt, May has served as a Title IX investigator and coordinator of the First Year Seminar program, among other tasks.

May earned a BA in History from Millsaps College, an MA in Higher Education and Student Personnel from the University of Mississippi and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy Studies – Higher Education from Georgia State University.
