Sarah Jacobs served two years as an English and theater instructor at Noxubee County High School while completing the Mississippi Teacher Corps graduate program. A native of Mississippi and an Ole Miss alumna, Sarah hopes to foster growth in new teachers as program coordinator.
Tammy Kirkland
Director of the World Class Teaching Program

Veteran Mississippi educator Tammy Kirkland joins the SOE as the new director of the World Class Teaching Program. Tammy hails from the New Albany School District and is a national board certified teacher. Her goal is to continue to expand the program by incorporating the use of social media and technology.
Sarah Langley
Director of Willie Price Laboratory School

Sarah Langley serves as the new director of UM’s Pre-K Willie Price Laboratory School. Sarah is also an instructor in the Department of Teacher Education and is an alumna of the UM School of Education.
Dr. Alicia Stapp
Assistant Professor of Elementary, Health and Physical Education

Alicia Stapp hails from the University of Central Florida where she taught courses on integrating arts and movement into the classroom. Alicia’s research interests reside in academic movement integration pedagogy, whole brain learning and kinesthetic learning strategies for diverse populations. She is leading the development of a K-6 Health and Physical Activity endorsement for UM elementary education majors.
Dr. Rukhsana Uddin
Grant Researcher and Writer

Rukhsana Uddin serves as the primary researcher and grant writer for the Department of Teacher Education. She also teaches in the Department of Leadership and Counselor Education. She speaks several foreign languages and previously served in the Department of Justice in Washington D.C., as an Intelligence Analyst.

Dr. Marie Barnard

With a background in academic and research administration, Marie Barnard specializes in program evaluation and research methods. As part of her appointment, she will work with the UM Dr. Maxine Harper Center for Educational Research and Evaluation.
Dr. Phillis George

Phillis George specializes in higher education curriculum design and service-learning. Her background includes academic/student affairs administration, program evaluation and SACSCOC accreditation.
Dr. Hsien-Yuan Hsu
Assistant Professor of Educational Research

Ph.D., Texas A&M University
Hsien-Yuan Hsu specializes in multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling and large-scale educational database analysis. Hsien-Yuan teaches graduate-level quantitative courses at the SOE. As part of his appointment, he will work with the UM Dr. Maxine Harper Center for Educational Research and Evaluation.
Dr. Alex Kerwin

A former school-based mental health counselor, Alex Kerwin teaches Introduction to Professional Counseling and Ethics, Assessment in Counseling and Counseling Skills. Alex’s research interests include social justice advocacy as part of counseling’s professional identity and counselor wellness.
Dr. Mandy Perryman
Assistant Professor of Counselor Education

Ph.D., University of New Mexico
Mandy Perryman teaches introductory and advanced counseling courses in clinical mental health and school counseling. Mandy focuses on teaching multicultural counseling competency and counseling theory. Her research interests include eating disorders and disordered eating, especially childhood obesity. She provides play therapy services at the UM Child Advocacy and Play Therapy Institute.
Dr. Marc Showalter
Clinical Assistant Professor of Counselor Education

After spending the past thirty years as a counselor, Marc Showalter now has the opportunity to help train future counselors. Marc is interested in the areas of self-assessment, crisis intervention and the development of the counseling relationship.
Dr. Amanda Winburn

Amanda Winburn has worked as an educator, school counselor and administrator in Mississippi, Tennessee and Indiana. Her research interests include at-risk students, RTI, play therapy, bullying and technology in counseling.
