The Oxford School District selected Callie Trusty (B.A.Ed. 18) as the First-Year Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019.

Trusty teaches English Language Arts at Oxford Intermediate School. At the March Board of Trustees meeting, Trusty was announced by AssistantSuperintendent Bradley Roberson and presented with a plaque for “distinguishing herself with an aptitude and attitude typically only seen in veteran teachers.”

The Oxford School District employed eight new teachers in 2018-2019. Trusty was nominated by OIS Principal Steve Hurdle and further selected by a committee from the Curriculum & Instruction Department.

“She is highly relational with her students and has a nurturing spirit,” Hurdle said. “Ms. Trusty is beloved by her colleagues and she goes above and beyond for her students.”

A colleague stated “her door is always open and anyone is welcome as a safe space for the students. She comforts, encourages, and motivates each student to do his/her best.”

One of Trusty’s students said, “at first, I tried not to like you, but it turns out that I love you as my teacher.”

Trusty is a native of Water Valley, Mississippi and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Trusty has a 5-year-old son, Cohen.
